Family and Friends,

We are honored and humbled to represent our Portuguese Community as your 2015 Presidents of the Festa do Espirito Santo. We had thought about this three other years previously, but just never felt the time was right. It wasn’t until Pedro was diagnosis with stage 4 rectal cancer which had spread to his liver in 2011. We promised the Holy Spirit that we would one day host the Festa in honor of Queen Saint Isabel and the Holy Spirit if he were cured.  After 9 months of chemotherapy treatments and a month of extensive radiation our prayers were answered and we felt so blessed.  We also had another request of our powerful Holy Spirit which our family had been praying for many ongoing years.  It took a little longer on this miracle, but by the grace of God and many family and friends prayers, we had been blessed again.  Even with the event of family tragedies in our lives, we have come out these tragedies closer, stronger and most importantly very spiritual. It was time for us to host this beautiful feast.

Our Portuguese Community in San Diego is a unique one with the support of not only this Festa, but all the other traditions our culture we all hold in our heart and we will work hard to continue these traditions, by being your 2015 Festa presidents. It takes a village and we look forward to working with you all.  We, as a family promise you all that we will work to the best of our ability to make Festa 2015 a memorable one.

One very important aspect to this tradition is we encourage all of you to participate in praying the Rosary during Festa week to thank the Holy Spirit for all the blessing he has given us throughout all of our lives. We are a great community bonded by the strong faith and devotion God and the Holy Spirit.

May the Holy Spirit bless each and every one of you!  It is going to be a blessed ride.

Respectfully,

Pedro & Therese Garces and Family

2015 Queen Ashley Noelle's Message

San Diego Community, Family, and Friends,

I am grateful to be your 2015 Festa do Espirito Santo Queen and honored to have been chosen by my Tito Pedro and Tita Therese Garces. These Portuguese traditions and our culture have made me who I am today and I have made great long lasting friendships along the way. With those friendships my Aunt and Uncle have chosen two very special side-maids, Amanda Cardosa and Elvita DaCosta. Both friends I have grown up with in my childhood and I couldn't think of anyone else to share this special event with.

I thank my parents John and Evelyn Barandiaran for this rich life of love, culture and many traditions. I also thank my Grandparents Juvaldo and Dolores Madruga and even Great Grandmother, Mary Balelo who gave my sister Alyssa, who will be your Jr. Queen, such great memories in our early childhood.

I recently returned from a 6 -month trip to Peru where I studied Spanish, nutrition and child development. My Grandparents Javier and Magdalena were born there and I was blessed to spend time with family while sharing in their culture as well. I was exposed to so many new experiences that made me grow. I am fortunate to have family always by my side on both my Peruvian and Portuguese side. For that I am thankful.

I am excited about this upcoming Festa year and am looking forward to fulfilling my duties as your Queen. I feel privileged and blessed to be a part of something so special to our community.

Respectfully,

Ashley Noelle Barandiaran

2015 King Daniel Adam's Message

It is with honor and pride that I serve as your 2015 Festa King. I am extremely fortunate to be a part of such an awesome community. I would like to thank Pedro & Therese Garces, my Uncle and Aunt, for giving me this opportunity to represent our great Portuguese community. I know you will have a successful Festa. I would like to thank my Dad, the belated Jose Maria Silva, and especially my Mom, Rosemarie Silva, for instilling the importance of Faith, Family, and Traditions, and supporting me every step of the way in this journey we call life. I wish to have half the strength my Mom has, raising three children by herself and doing an amazing job at that.

This year as Festa King, I look forward to working with all the hard-working and dedicated volunteers who bring Festa together each year. From the different fundraisers to Festa weekend, the volunteers work non-stop to ensure our culture and traditions are celebrated each year. Festa 2015 will be the 105th Festa do Espirito Santo in San Diego. This could never have happened without the continuous hard work and support of our Portuguese community. It is because of them I am extremely proud, honored, and humbled to carry the crown, "coroa", in the 2015 Festa.

To Ashley, the 2015 Festa Queen and my Godchild, I look forward watching you reign as the 105th Festa Queen. You are a beautiful and great person and can't wait to celebrate this year's festivities with you.

Serving as the 2015 Festa King will be an experience I will never forget.

God Bless,

Daniel Adam Silva
